Is it time for a Random Legislature?

Given the current impass in the Republican Party itself, the division in the Congress, and the seeming inability of our elected officials to act in the best interests of those who foolishly elected them, I believe it is time to appoint or recruit those who govern like we do jury duty: randomly, but from a pool of qualified, non-criminals citizens.

Briefly, folks would be randomly chosen from pools of citizens without criminal records who have the ability to serve for a relatively short period of time, say, one year, in which their job would be held, they would be compensated at the same rate as they currently earn, provided housing and expenses for the duration, during which they would debate and vote on all proposals brought forth during their term. It would be like a deployment to Washington, where these folks would be possibly immune from special interests, outside influences like lobbists, and re-election concerns.

Of course, I haven't hashed out all the gory details, and any comments are appreciated. Anything would likely be better than the system we have now!
